School District of Osceola County plans construction in big residential development

The School District of Osceola County plans to build a $32 million school as part of a 27,000-acre development.

District officials are bidding out the construction manager at-risk role for a new three-story, 159,800-square-foot school with a standalone gym for grades K-8 on 20 acres north of the future Cyrils Drive extension.

The project is part of Tavistock Development Co.'s Sunbridge master-planned development, which includes land in both Orange and Osceola counties. Sunbridge can support a combined 22,700 single-family homes, 13,990 apartments and 6,000 hotel rooms, along with more than 11 million square feet of office space and 3.9 million square feet of industrial space among other uses.

District officials wanted to build the school based on future enrollment projections in the area and the need for a relief school there, district spokeswoman Dana Schafer told Orlando Business Journal.

The due date for bids is March 1 and the contract would be awarded in April. The tentative start date for construction is Jan. 1, 2023, and the final completion is set for September 2024.
